I am 5 weeks out from a 6 week course of prednisone (to treat an emergency inflammatory condition ) . I have/am ADHD..After a 6 week roller coaster of speedy joy and energy I am exhausted find myself mindlessly scrolling motivation is challenging and the beautiful pathways I had created to manage persistent pain and ADHD seem to have disappeared. My question is what should I have done? Have my pathways gone? I had no idea this would happen.
I am so sorry to hear this Linda. I'm not an expert on the effects of prednisone on the brain, but after a read in the literature, there definitely do seem to be changes in brain function following treatment. There is nothing you could have done - you were receiving treatment for an emergency inflammatory condition and prioritizing your health. Any changes in brain function will of course take time to recover from, but pathways you have formed are unlikely to be gone forever - I have an article series on achieving goals, an article on dopamine, and an article on productivity and stress, all of which may be helpful! But remember to be kind to yourself! I hope you are better soon.
